Michael III

Michael III was the Byzantine Emperor who reigned from 842 to 867 AD. He became emperor as a teenager following his mother’s regency. Michael's rule is noted for the revival of Byzantine culture and the strengthening of the empire, particularly through the promotion of Christianity and arts. His reign is also marked by military conflicts, especially with the Arabs. He is often remembered for his patronage of the arts and the establishment of the Greek Orthodox Church's influence. However, his reign ended tragically when he was assassinated in a coup led by his close associate, Basil the Macedonian.
