Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT)
Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) is a therapeutic approach designed to help individuals understand their own thoughts and feelings, as well as those of others. It is particularly effective for people with emotional and relationship difficulties, such as those with borderline personality disorder. MBT focuses on enhancing one's ability to “mentalize,” or recognize and interpret mental states like beliefs, desires, and intentions. By improving this skill, individuals can better manage their emotions, improve relationships, and make more informed decisions. The treatment typically involves individual therapy and sometimes group therapy, emphasizing a supportive therapeutic relationship.
