Memory B cells

Memory B cells are a type of immune cell that plays a crucial role in the body’s ability to remember past infections. When the body encounters a virus or bacteria, B cells help produce antibodies that fight off the invader. After the infection is cleared, some of these B cells transform into memory B cells, which remain in the body for years or even a lifetime. If the same pathogen infects the body again, memory B cells quickly recognize it and produce the necessary antibodies much faster, providing a stronger and more efficient immune response than during the first encounter.
