Membrane trafficking
Membrane trafficking is the process by which cells transport proteins, lipids, and other molecules between different compartments inside the cell or to the cell’s surface. This involves small vesicles—tiny bubbles that bud off from one membrane, carry their cargo, and then fuse with another membrane. This system ensures that molecules reach their correct destinations, supporting functions like nutrient intake, waste removal, and cell communication. Essentially, membrane trafficking maintains the cell’s internal organization and manages the exchange of materials necessary for cell health and activity.
