Melakarta

Melakarta is a system of 72 fundamental musical scales used in Carnatic music, the classical tradition of South India. Each Melakarta scale consists of a specific arrangement of seven notes, or swaras, which form the basis for various raagas (melodies). These scales provide a structure for composition and improvisation, allowing musicians to explore different emotional expressions.
