Mehmed II, also known as Mehmed the Conqueror or Fatih, was a 15th-century Ottoman sultan renowned for his military prowess and significant expansions of the Ottoman Empire. He is most famous for capturing Constantinople in 1453, which marked the end of the Byzantine Empire and transformed the city into a major center of Islamic culture. His reign helped facilitate the rise of the Ottomans as a dominant power in Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Mehmed II also initiated important administrative and cultural reforms, fostering the arts and architecture, most notably commissioning the construction of the Topkapi Palace.
