Adrianople

Adrianople, now known as Edirne in Turkey, was a significant city in ancient and medieval times, located near the border of the Roman and Byzantine Empires. It is most famous for the Battle of Adrianople in 378 AD, where the Goths decisively defeated the Roman army, marking a turning point that contributed to the decline of the Western Roman Empire. The battle demonstrated the vulnerabilities of the Roman military against barbarian forces and is considered a pivotal event in the transformation of Europe during this period. Today, Adrianople/Edine remains a city with rich historical and cultural significance.
