Marquis de Montcalm
Marquis de Montcalm, born in 1712, was a French military leader known for his role during the French and Indian War (1754-1763), which was part of the larger struggle between France and Britain for control of North America. He is best recognized for his leadership in the successful capture of the British stronghold at Fort William Henry in 1757. However, his forces faced a decisive defeat at the Battle of Quebec in 1759 against British General James Wolfe. Montcalm's legacy is tied to his efforts in defending French territory in North America during this critical conflict. He died in battle that same year.
