Marine Expeditionary Force
A Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) is a large, flexible military unit in the U.S. Marine Corps designed for rapid deployment and combat operations. It typically includes about 20,000 to 90,000 Marines and sailors, organized into a balanced force with ground, air, and logistics capabilities. MEFs are prepared to respond to crises, conduct amphibious assaults, and engage in joint operations with other military branches. Each MEF is commanded by a major general and can operate independently or as part of a larger military strategy, focusing on versatility and speed in various missions, from humanitarian aid to full combat operations.
