Ma'at

Ma'at is an ancient Egyptian concept embodying truth, balance, order, and justice. It represents the ideal state of cosmic harmony and societal order that Egyptian society sought to maintain. Central to Ma'at was the belief that the universe functions best when truth and morality prevail. Ancient Egyptians believed that pharaohs were responsible for upholding Ma'at through ethical governance, and individuals were encouraged to live in accordance with these principles to ensure harmony in their lives and the stability of the world. After death, one's heart would be weighed against the feather of Ma'at to determine the worthiness for an afterlife.
