London Metropolitan Water Board
The London Metropolitan Water Board was established in 1902 to manage London's water supply. It combined several smaller water companies to provide a more efficient and reliable service to the growing population of London. The Board was responsible for sourcing, treating, and distributing clean drinking water across the city, ensuring public health and sanitation. Eventually, in 1974, it was reorganized and its functions were absorbed into the Thames Water Authority, which continues to serve London's water needs today. The Board played a key role in modernizing water infrastructure and improving access to safe drinking water in the capital.
