Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)
The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is a Kurdish militant group founded in the late 1970s. Initially established to fight for the rights and autonomy of Kurds in Turkey, the PKK turned to armed struggle in the 1980s. Its leader, Abdullah Ă–calan, advocated for Kurdish self-determination. The Turkish government considers the PKK a terrorist organization, while some argue it represents legitimate Kurdish aspirations. The conflict has resulted in significant violence and political tension in Turkey and surrounding regions, impacting millions of people. Efforts for peace and resolution have been ongoing but remain complex and challenging.
