Kurdistan Workers' Party
The Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, is a Kurdish militant organization founded in the late 1970s. Initially focused on promoting Kurdish rights and autonomy within Turkey, it has engaged in armed conflict against the Turkish state. The PKK seeks greater political representation and cultural rights for Kurds, who have faced repression in Turkey. Over the years, it has been labeled a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU, while it has also garnered support from some Kurds for its fight against oppression. The group's activities have significant implications for regional stability and Turkish politics.
