Kuomintang
The Kuomintang (KMT) is a major political party in Taiwan, originally founded in China in 1912. It played a leading role in overthrowing the Qing Dynasty and establishing the Republic of China. Historically, it was the ruling party in China until 1949, when it retreated to Taiwan following a civil war with the Chinese Communist Party. The KMT traditionally promotes Chinese nationalism, maintains closer ties with mainland China, and advocates for a market-oriented economy. Today, it remains a significant political force in Taiwan, emphasizing stability, economic development, and eventual peaceful unification with mainland China.
