Kobo Daishi (Kūkai)

Kobo Daishi, also known as Kūkai, was a Japanese monk, scholar, and artist of the 9th century, credited with founding the Shingon sect of Buddhism. He emphasized esoteric practices and the use of mantras and rituals to attain enlightenment. Kūkai was also a calligrapher and poet, known for his contributions to Japanese literature and culture. He established the sacred pilgrimage route on Shikoku, which remains popular today. Revered as a spiritual figure, he is often associated with compassion and is enshrined at Mount Kōya, where his mausoleum attracts many pilgrims and visitors.
