Khilafat Khilafat Movement

The Khilafat Movement (1919-1924) was a political campaign in British India aimed at defending the Ottoman Empire's caliphate, which many Muslims viewed as their spiritual leader. Following World War I, the empire faced disintegration, and the movement sought to protest against the British government’s actions that threatened it. Prominent leaders like Mahatma Gandhi supported the movement, seeing it as a way to unite Hindus and Muslims against colonial rule. However, the movement gradually declined after the abolition of the caliphate in 1924, leading to shifts in Muslim political identity and empowerment in India.
