Khalq faction
The Khalq faction was a political group within Afghanistan’s communist party, known as the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA). Emerging in the 1970s, it sought radical reforms, including land redistribution and women's rights, but also employed coercive tactics. The Khalq faction favored a more hardline, populist approach compared to the more moderate Parcham faction. Their actions contributed to civil unrest and eventually led to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. The faction’s dominance lasted until internal party conflicts and the Soviet withdrawal reshaped Afghanistan’s political landscape.
