Kenmu Restoration
The Kenmu Restoration (1333-1336) was a brief period in Japanese history when Emperor Go-Daigo attempted to reclaim political power from the Kamakura shogunate, a military government that had ruled Japan. In 1333, Go-Daigo successfully overthrew the shogunate with support from various samurai and loyalist factions. He sought to restore the emperor's authority and reform the government to address the issues caused by the shogunate's rule. However, his efforts faced opposition, leading to internal conflict. The restoration ended when Ashikaga Takauji, initially an ally, turned against Go-Daigo, establishing the Ashikaga shogunate and marking a new era in Japanese history.
