Kariye Mosque, also known as the Chora Church, is a historic building in Istanbul, Turkey, originally constructed as a Christian church in the 4th century. It is renowned for its stunning Byzantine mosaics and frescoes, depicting biblical scenes. After the Ottoman Empire conquered Constantinople in 1453, the church was converted into a mosque. In 1945, it became a museum, showcasing its artistic heritage. The building reflects a blend of architectural styles and cultural influences, illustrating the rich history of Istanbul as a crossroads of Christianity and Islam. In 2020, it was reconverted into a mosque.
