Johan de Witt was a prominent Dutch politician and statesman in the 17th century, known for leading the Dutch Republic during a period of economic growth and military strength. He served as Grand Pensionary, effectively acting as the head of government, and promoted republican ideals, emphasizing the power of the provinces over the monarchy.
