Jat Reservations
Jat reservations refer to the demand for affirmative action for the Jat community in India, primarily in Haryana and neighboring states. The Jats, traditionally an agrarian community, seek government jobs, educational benefits, and political representation to uplift their socio-economic status. In 2016, large protests highlighted their demands, leading to violence and disruptions. The Indian government has granted OBC (Other Backward Classes) status to the Jats in some states, allowing them to access reservations, but the issue continues to generate debate regarding social justice, equity, and the impact on other communities.
