Islamic Spain
Islamic Spain, known as Al-Andalus, refers to the period from the 8th to the 15th century when parts of the Iberian Peninsula were under Muslim rule. Following the Umayyad conquest in 711, Al-Andalus became a center of culture, science, and philosophy, characterized by remarkable advancements in architecture, mathematics, and medicine. The era witnessed a synthesis of Islamic, Christian, and Jewish cultures, contributing to a vibrant society. The Reconquista, a series of campaigns by Christian states, ultimately led to the fall of Granada in 1492, marking the end of Muslim rule in Spain and the beginning of a new era.
