Inherited Retinal Diseases
Inherited retinal diseases are genetic conditions that affect the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye essential for vision. These disorders can lead to vision loss and may progress over time. Common examples include retinitis pigmentosa and Stargardt disease. People inherit these conditions from their parents due to genetic mutations. Symptoms often manifest as difficulty seeing at night, loss of peripheral vision, or blurriness. While there is no cure, ongoing research and treatments, including gene therapy and retinal implants, are being developed to help manage these diseases and improve patients' quality of life.
