Indian agrarian history
Indian agrarian history is characterized by a long-standing relationship between society and agriculture, dating back thousands of years. Ancient agrarian practices included subsistence farming, evolving through various empires that introduced irrigation and cash crops. The British colonial period transformed agriculture, introducing commercial farming and new technologies, but also led to exploitative land revenue systems. Post-independence, the Green Revolution in the 1960s aimed to boost food production through high-yield crops and technology. Today, Indian agriculture faces challenges such as climate change, small landholdings, and market access, while still being a crucial part of the economy and rural livelihood.
