Herpes
Herpes is a viral infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). There are two main types: HSV-1, which often leads to cold sores around the mouth, and HSV-2, typically associated with genital sores. Herpes is highly contagious and can spread through direct contact with infected skin or fluids, even when symptoms are not visible. Once contracted, the virus stays in the body and may cause periodic outbreaks of sores or blisters. While there is no cure, antiviral medications can help manage symptoms and reduce the frequency of outbreaks.
