Hero's Steam Engine
Hero's Steam Engine, invented by Hero of Alexandria in the 1st century AD, is considered one of the earliest examples of a steam-powered device. It used steam pressure to create motion. By boiling water in a sealed container, steam formed and escaped through small nozzles, causing a hollow sphere to rotate. This principle illustrated the potential of steam power long before it was harnessed for industrial use. Although Hero's invention was more of a curiosity than a practical machine, it laid foundational concepts for later steam engines that fueled the Industrial Revolution.
