Herceptin
Herceptin, also known by its generic name trastuzumab, is a targeted cancer therapy used primarily to treat breast cancer that tests positive for the HER2 protein, which promotes the growth of cancer cells. By attaching to the HER2 protein on those cells, Herceptin helps to slow down or stop their growth and makes it easier for the immune system to attack them. It is usually administered through an intravenous infusion. Herceptin has significantly improved outcomes for many patients with HER2-positive breast cancer, making it a crucial option in modern cancer treatment.
