Heisei Era
The Heisei era in Japan lasted from January 8, 1989, to April 30, 2019. It began with the accession of Emperor Akihito following the death of his father, Emperor Showa. The era is marked by significant events, including Japan's economic challenges, natural disasters like the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, and cultural shifts that include advancements in technology and a growing interest in traditional arts. The Heisei era ended when Emperor Akihito abdicated, a rare event in modern Japan, and was succeeded by his son, Emperor Naruhito, marking the beginning of the Reiwa era.
