hard disk drives
A hard disk drive (HDD) is a data storage device commonly used in computers. It consists of spinning disks coated with magnetic material that records information as it writes and reads data using a moving arm with a tiny read/write head. HDDs store everything from the operating system to files and applications. They are known for their large storage capacity and relatively low cost compared to solid-state drives (SSDs). However, HDDs are generally slower and more susceptible to physical damage because of their mechanical parts. Despite this, they remain popular for extensive data storage needs.
