Gracile nucleus
The gracile nucleus is a group of nerve cells located in the brainstem, specifically within the medulla oblongata. It plays a crucial role in processing sensory information from the body's lower part, particularly touch and body position sensations from the legs and lower trunk. When the body senses these inputs, the signals travel to the gracile nucleus, which helps relay them to other areas of the brain for further interpretation. This process allows us to perceive feelings such as touch and pressure, aiding in our overall awareness of our body's position in space.
