Government of India Act

The Government of India Act was a law enacted by the British Parliament in 1935 to govern India, aiming to give Indians more control over their own affairs. It introduced a federal structure with elected provincial legislatures and expanded voting rights, but ultimate authority remained with the British government. The act also established a separate electorate for certain communities and created a system for provincial and central government functioning. While it marked a step towards self-governance, it was still limited and faced criticism for not granting full independence. It laid groundwork for later moves toward India's independence.
