Geraldine Rebellion

The Geraldine Rebellion, which occurred in Ireland in the 1560s, was a conflict involving the Fitzgerald family, known as the Geraldines, against English rule. Tensions rose due to English efforts to consolidate control in Ireland and diminish the power of local chieftains. Led by Sir James FitzMaurice Fitzgerald, the rebellion aimed to restore the Geraldines' influence and resist English encroachment. The revolt was ultimately unsuccessful, resulting in harsh repression and increased English governance, marking a significant moment in the struggle between native Irish leaders and English authorities during the Tudor period.
