George Stephenson (1781-1848) was an English civil and mechanical engineer, renowned as the "Father of Railways." He developed the first successful steam locomotive, named Locomotion No. 1, which began operating in 1825 on the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world's first public railway to use steam locomotives. Stephenson's innovations in railway engineering and his establishment of standard designs for locomotives and tracks laid the groundwork for the global expansion of rail transport. His work significantly contributed to the Industrial Revolution, transforming travel, trade, and the economy in the 19th century.
