Geographical coordinates

Geographical coordinates are a system used to pinpoint specific locations on the Earth’s surface. They consist of two main components: latitude and longitude. Latitude measures how far north or south a place is from the Equator, while longitude measures how far east or west it is from the Prime Meridian. Each location is expressed as a pair of numbers, like 40°N for latitude and 74°W for longitude. This system allows us to accurately describe any spot on the globe, making it essential for navigation, mapping, and understanding geography.
