Gaozu of Tang, originally named Li Yuan, was the founder and first emperor of the Tang Dynasty in China, reigning from 618 to 626 CE. He rose to power after leading a rebellion against the Sui Dynasty, which was marked by its harsh rule. Gaozu is credited with establishing a strong centralized government and promoting Confucianism, which influenced Chinese society and culture significantly.
