G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs)

G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) are special proteins found in the cell membrane that help transmit signals from outside the cell to the inside. They act like "molecular switches," activating internal pathways in response to various signals, such as hormones, light, or neurotransmitters. Once a signal binds to a GPCR, it triggers a change in the receptor, which then activates an associated protein inside the cell called a G-protein. This interaction influences many important biological processes, making GPCRs crucial for functions like vision, taste, immune response, and even how our body responds to drugs and medications.
