Friction

Friction is the force that resists the sliding motion between two surfaces in contact. In rigid body mechanics, it plays a crucial role in everyday situations, like walking or driving. When you push an object, friction acts in the opposite direction, making it harder to move. It depends on the types of surfaces involved and how much they are pressed together. There are two main types: static friction (which keeps objects at rest) and kinetic friction (which acts when objects are sliding). Understanding friction helps us design safer and more efficient machines and structures.
