Fort Sullivan
Fort Sullivan was a military fortification located on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. Built in the mid-18th century, it played a significant role during the American Revolutionary War, particularly in the Battle of Sullivan's Island in 1776. The fort was designed to protect Charleston from British naval attacks. Its defenses, made of earth and palmetto logs, withstood a powerful bombardment, contributing to the American victory. This battle boosted morale for the American forces and became a symbol of resilience. Fort Sullivan later served various military purposes before being abandoned and is now part of Fort Moultrie National Historic Park.
