Forest Rights Act
The Forest Rights Act, also known as the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, recognizes the rights of forest-dwelling communities to land and resources they have traditionally used or inhabited. It grants individuals and communities legal claims to forest land, resources, and livelihoods, aiming to empower marginalized groups, ensure sustainable forest management, and balance conservation with their traditional rights. The Act provides a framework for restoring their cultural and economic independence while promoting conservation efforts.
