
Ferdinand Verbiest
Ferdinand Verbiest (1623-1688) was a Belgian Jesuit missionary and astronomer known for his contributions to science and diplomacy in China. He played a crucial role in fostering cultural exchange between Europe and China during the Qing Dynasty. Verbiest developed astronomical instruments, improved Chinese calendars, and engaged in scientific discussions with Chinese scholars. He is also recognized for creating one of the earliest steam-powered vehicles, a small model that demonstrated the principles of steam propulsion.
