Fencing equipment consists of several key components used in the sport of fencing, which involves three main disciplines: foil, épée, and sabre. Essential gear includes the weapon itself—each has a unique blade, guard, and handle. Fencers wear a mask to protect their face, a jacket (known as a baudrier) and underarm protector to shield their torso, and gloves to safeguard their hands. Protective pants and footwear complete the ensemble. The scoring system relies on electronic systems detecting touches, making safety and precision paramount in this fast-paced sport.
