Olympic fencing rules

Olympic fencing involves three disciplines: foil, épée, and sabre, each with distinct rules. Fighters aim to score points by touching their opponent with the tip or edge of their weapon in designated target areas. Foil targets are the torso, épée covers the entire body, and sabre targets everything above the waist. Points are awarded with touches registered by electronic sensors. Fights are timed, and the first to reach a set point total or the one leading at the end wins. Priority rules determine who scores if both land touches simultaneously. Fencing emphasizes skill, strategy, and precise timing within these guidelines.
