Federal Government of the United States

The Federal Government of the United States is the national governing body that oversees the country. It is divided into three branches: the Legislative (Congress), which makes laws; the Executive (headed by the President), which enforces those laws; and the Judicial (the courts), which interprets laws. This system is designed to ensure a balance of power and prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful. The federal government is responsible for national defense, immigration, foreign policy, and regulating interstate commerce, among other duties, while states retain their own powers in various local matters.
