Excimer Laser
An excimer laser is a type of ultraviolet laser that uses a combination of gases, often involving noble gases and halogens. This laser produces high-energy light pulses, making it ideal for precision tasks like eye surgery (LASIK) and micro-fabrication in electronics. The term "excimer" refers to the temporary, excited state of the gas molecules which generates the laser light when they return to a normal state. Excimer lasers are known for their ability to remove material extremely accurately, allowing for reshaping tissue or creating intricate designs on surfaces.
