Esophageal Dysmotility
Esophageal dysmotility refers to abnormal movement or coordination of the esophagus, the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. Normally, the esophagus works by contracting in a wave-like motion to push food down. In dysmotility, these contractions may be too weak, too strong, or uncoordinated, leading to difficulties in swallowing, food getting stuck, or even regurgitation. This condition can result from various factors, including neurological disorders, inflammation, or certain medical treatments. Diagnosis often involves tests like esophageal manometry, and treatment may include dietary changes, medications, or other therapies to improve esophageal function.
