achalasia

Achalasia is a condition where the esophagus, the tube that carries food from your mouth to your stomach, has difficulty moving food downward. This happens because the muscles in the lower part of the esophagus don’t relax properly, and the nerve signals that control swallowing are impaired. As a result, food and liquids can get stuck, causing symptoms like difficulty swallowing, chest pain, regurgitation, and sometimes weight loss. Treatment aims to relax or open the lower esophageal sphincter to improve swallowing, using techniques like dilation, medication, or surgery.
