ENCODE

The ENCODE project, which stands for the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements, is a large-scale research initiative aimed at identifying and understanding all functional elements in the human genome. Launched in 2003, it involves scientists analyzing how genes work and how various DNA sequences contribute to biological functions, like regulating when and where genes are turned on or off. By uncovering these elements, ENCODE helps improve our knowledge of genetics and the underlying causes of diseases, ultimately advancing medicine and biotechnology.
