Emperor Constantine V
Emperor Constantine V, who ruled the Byzantine Empire from 741 to 775, is best known for his military successes and efforts to strengthen imperial authority. A proponent of iconoclasm, he opposed the veneration of religious images, which led to significant religious conflict in the empire. Constantine V is also recognized for his military campaigns against neighboring Muslim states, successfully defending and expanding Byzantine territories. His reign marked a period of internal consolidation and promotion of Byzantine culture, although his iconoclastic policies created divisions that influenced the empire for centuries.
