Electroconvulsive therapy

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is a medical treatment for severe mental health conditions, such as depression, that haven’t responded to other therapies. During ECT, small electric currents are passed through the brain, intentionally triggering a brief seizure. This process can help alleviate symptoms by affecting brain chemistry and mood-regulating neurotransmitters. ECT is done under anesthesia and involves multiple sessions to achieve optimal results. While it may sound daunting, it’s considered safe and effective for many patients, often improving their quality of life when other treatments have failed.
