Cystine Stones
Cystine stones are kidney or urinary stones formed from a protein called cystine. When the body breaks down certain amino acids, cystine is produced. Normally, it dissolves easily in urine, but for some people, it doesn't dissolve properly due to a genetic disorder called cystinuria. This causes cystine to build up and crystallize, forming stones. These stones can block the urinary tract, leading to pain, infections, and other complications. Treatment often involves increased fluid intake, medications to prevent stone formation, and sometimes procedures to remove or break the stones.
